• Daily Care

Each horse is turned out daily in their own separate turnout, in close proximity to other horses for optimal socialization. Weather permitting, horses are in their turnouts five to six hours each day. All horses at Sweetwater Farm are in the barn at night, either in a box stall or in and out stall.

As a full service barn, blanketing, unblanketing, fly spray, fly mask, and owner provided supplements are fed daily. These services are included in the monthly board. There is no charge for trailer parking. Chronic medications are given to horses once daily in the morning by the manager, at boarder’s request.

A final barn check is done each evening, to ensure that all horses are exhibiting normal behavior, all gates are locked, and the horses are safely tucked in for the night. Owner/manager lives on premises and in close proximity to the barn.

  • Feed Routine

The horses are fed three times a day. The early morning meal and evening meal are fed in the barn, while the lunchtime meal is fed in the turnout.

Forage is a very high quality orchard grass or a mix of orchard grass and timothy grass hay. The hay is purchased from the same reliable broker each year and composition testing is available upon request. Hay is fed according to the specific needs of each horse, with consideration given to their age, optimal weight, health condition, exercise program, and climate conditions. Adjustments are made as needed to keep your horse at an ideal weight.

At Sweetwater Farm, the owner/manager feeds all horses each morning, providing the opportunity to assess each horse.

  • Boarders & Training

Our boarders comprise a small community of experienced horse owners who value the peaceful setting at Sweetwater Farm. We board and care for 15-17 horses who work in a variety of disciplines of riding. Our boarders seek customized care and attention for their horse, based upon their specific needs. Our boarders also value the confidence they have in the Sweetwater care team, and are comfortable going on vacation or skipping a day at the barn, while knowing their horse will be well cared for.

Boarders are welcome to invite their trainer of choice (with prior notification and proof of insurance coverage), vet , or farrier to our barn. .Sweetwater Farm is open to all professionals, including massage therapists, equine chiropractors, custom saddle fitters, clinicians, etc. A list of professionals who currently come to the Facility can be provided upon request.

Boarded horses are at various stages in their careers, including developing skills in specific disciplines, horses in training, horses showing, and retired horses. Our facility is not set up to meet the needs of very young horses (under four years old), jumpers, reining, or cutting horses unless retired from the show ring.
